Like the generation before them, Millennials are just as interested in cosmetic surgery and the many benefits that it can offer. The one difference is that Millennials have access to far more information than the generations that came before them, making it easy to find out more about different surgeries and the surgeons who can perform them.
According to a report by American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), there are 5 surgeries that are particularly popular amongst Millennials.
Top cosmetic surgery procedures amongst Millennials
Here is a countdown of the most popular procedures:
- Breast Lift
Breast lifts have become such a popular procedure amongst Millennials because many of them are beginning to experience signs of ageing such as sagging and loss of perkiness. The ASAPS report showed that breast lifts made up close to 22% of all procedures performed in 2016 in the U.S. alone.
- Tummy tuck
As Millennials have started having children of their own, it’s no surprise that tummy tucks have made it into the top 5 cosmetic surgeries. Women are also bombarded with images of what a perfect body should look like on a daily basis, which is another reason why this has become such a popular procedure. 20% of all cosmetic surgery procedures performed in 2016 consisted of tummy tucks.

Even though rhinoplasty has been a popular procedure for decades, Millennials have truly embraced it too. It is also far more acceptable than it once was. The ASAPS report showed that 48% of all rhinoplasties that were performed in 2016 were for Millennials.
This cosmetic surgery has remained a favourite for many decades now and is a procedure that is performed on men and women of all ages. In fact, liposuction now also forms part of many modern procedures such as the Brazilian butt lift. Some experts say that liposuction is particularly popular in today’s society because it is far more difficult to lose weight. 45% of all cosmetic procedures performed across the globe in 2016 consisted of liposuction.
- Breast Augmentation
Just under 660,000 Millennials underwent breast augmentation in 2016. Breast augmentation has always been a popular cosmetic surgery procedure but advancements such as the creation of Gummy Bear implants and fat grafting has revolutionised this procedure by making it safer and by producing more natural-looking results.
Another interesting fact is that over 13% of breast augmentation procedures in 2016 were performed on women who were 17 or younger. Over and above the aesthetic appeal of breast augmentation, some of the main reasons why younger women are opting to undergo this procedure include severe asymmetry, Poland’s syndrome and tubular breast.
